Steadfast is an open Clinker built vessel that was built at the Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy. Her lines were extracted from an existing Beer beach boat a few miles along the west coast. There were no formal line drawings constructed so this vessel would be considered a heritage design.
The design comprises of a conventional Clinker built open vessel with good freeboard and good beam. The engine is installed mid ship, with storage lockers to the forward and aft. There are small areas of deck on the forepeak and the aft (not generally used for walking access).
The vessel has been constructed of externally painted and internally varnished larch planking copper riveted to steam bent oak frames with sawn frames at regular intervals. Three Bent Frames between each sawn frame. The sawn frames are oak. Sapele varnished transom, sapele keel. Laminated stern. Timber bilge keels. Stainless steel full length keel band on bilge keels and centre keel.
Conventional construction throughout additionally using epoxy based resin glue for all cross halving joints on sawn frame futtock joints, planks scarf joints quarter knee connections and all other constructed components where jointing required.
In 2010 it was quoted that the overall standard of construction with regard to the accuracy of build appears to be very good and the overall finish is excellent.
